    <font size="2" face="verdana, arial">But this is a board about Social D's music, ain't it?

I figured that someone would come and complain about bringing Social D/Mike Ness into the subject.

Don't get me wrong...I ain't mad at you for it...but...with so many people (not only here) copying Mike's style, looks and sound...why not take a closer look at his personal believes about current issues and delicate subjects such as this?
Maybe something rubs off on those people that are yet undecided and maybe it makes them look a little deeper into certain topics that they haven't cared much about before.

I personally get my information from other sources - thanks for your concern - but those musicians are role models to some of their younger audience (whether they like it or not) and I don't think it's a bad thing to give a listen to what some of them have to say.

Many artists are pretty outspoken when it comes to the death penalty, be it Steve Earle, Johnny Cash or others from the music scene or the big sceen. Especially Steve Earle has a lot more insight into it as any of us because he has served time, supports anti-capital-punishment groups and is personally involved with death row inmates.
And so...whilst I primarily listen to Steve Earle because of his songwriting, I also think that he has a lot to say when the guitar is left in its case.

And unlike you I don't see anything wrong in bringing their point of view into the discussion...

Okay, about the question of whether it is cheaper to keep someone alive than kill them...I was watching a news program and they said it is "economical" for prisons to keep inmates alive so they can work in jobs (for like 8 cents an hour) that the state would otherwise have to pay workers a living wage to keep. Still, it doesn't look like a lot of work is being done (other than some laundry).

About the guy trying to get clemency...well, if you knew the needle was coming towards your arm in a couple days, wouldn't you try one more time to overturn your conviction? Even if you did the crime, you'd still try.

Honestly...why would anyone bring Mike Ness' view on the death penalty up here? Do you believe everything he does? This subject was about a current event...not the meanings of Mike's lyrics.
The reason it costs more to kill someone is the amount of tax dollars that go into paying lawyers for all of the appeal and trial processes. Automatic appeals, change of laywer, etc...that is what drives the cost up so high. It has nothing to do with the cost of the actual execution.
"Tookie" owned up to nothing. He stated that he was sorry for founding the crips. That is it. He never apologized for the mayhem, murder, and drug running they have been and are still responsible for. He never once denounced the actions of its "members". Never once did he give anyone who wondered what happened to their child an answer...and he had them.
But no matter what anyone says on this topic or any other like it, the fact remains the same...
    he is dead now.
